I hadn’t had a proper facial in years. Like many women in my 50s, making the effort to look nice—or even feeling like I should—had become harder and harder.
So when January came, I found myself tapping on the door of Lara Collins Skin Clinic.
Based just outside Kingsthorpe, Lara Collins Skin Clinic is a specialist skin care clinic run by an experienced therapist focused on tailored, high‑quality skin treatments for a range of concerns.
Core Treatments
Her core treatments are advanced Blemish Removal & Reduction and Bio‑Therapeutic Technology‑Led Facials.
These are advanced microcurrent, exfoliation and tech‑enhanced facials designed to rejuvenate skin, improve tone, texture, and radiance.
I had opted for a facial treatment , and choosing just one was my first challenge.
“Tell me about your cleansing routine,” Lara asked.
“Er… I don’t really have one.”
“You’ll be lucky if I even slap on moisturiser,” I confessed. My skincare products mostly gather dust on my chest of drawers.
Time for a Skin Consultation
“Well, let’s start with a skin consultation,” Lara said.
Lara tested my skin for moisture levels using a digital skin moisture probe. Considering my lack of skin care, maybe it wasn’t that surprising my skin turned out to be quite dehydrated. Lara explained how the right facial could revive and protect my skin, and soon I was signed up for the anti-ageing facial called the Hyalu-Procollagen Facial which also had the benefits of deep hydration.
This treatment also combined hyaluronic acid and marine pro-collagen for plumping and reducing fine lines, Lara explained. It would involve a series of roller boosters to relax wrinkles, reviving marine mist, cleansing of the eyes and lips, dermal stimulation and a marine mask.
Then the pampering began. I lay on the warm, heated couch, which folded into my natural curves. A welcome massage started the session, and I felt myself relaxing almost instantly.
“If you drift off, don’t worry,” Lara said.
Next came a gentle facial scrub. What followed was a hands-on combination of warm towels, soft massage, and heavenly scents that eft me feeling like putty in Lara’s hands. Honestly, I can’t even remember the exact order—it all felt wonderfully indulgent.

60 minutes later, I was disappointed to have to move! “I’ll just lie here for a bit longer,” I said.
I had to get up but was given a little goody bag of skin care samples to take home.

When I left, something unexpected had happened. I felt a little bit more… motivated. Motivated to make an effort to care for my appearance. So much so, I actually went to the gym the next day.
Because that hour of pampering did something to my brain as well as my skin. It signalled that maybe I was still worth it !

It wasn’t just about skin—it was about reclaiming a sense of value I’d let slip over the years. Just a little time taken for self-care made me feel seen, pampered, and reminded me: I am worth it.
I wonder how long that feeling will last?
The facial treatment was gifted for an honest review.
