ABOUT ME
Hi there, I’m Sarah Becker, a trained writer on a journey into becoming a multimedia storyteller, driven by curiosity.
I founded Northants Uncovered as a space to share the incredible stories emerging from Northamptonshire in the creative communities and to begin the adventure of telling those stories in innovative new ways.
With a background in magazine journalism (Cardiff University) and a Combined Arts degree (University of Northampton), I’ve spent over a decade writing human interest features and cultural commentary – in print.
Growing up, I always had my head buried in The Bunty magazine or Just Seventeen with a cat on my lap. I cut my teeth writing stories for women about women for national magazine, ’19.’
You will find my stories in both national and regional spaces including The Guardian, Channel 4 Despatches, The Daily Mail, ‘19’ Magazine, Northampton Chronicle & Echo, NN Journal, Northants Live, and the Northants Telegraph.
A Voice for Creative Communities
More recently I’ve been bringing voices to the airwaves through NLive Radio. I’ve been a theatre reviewer at the Royal & Derngate for many years, and I founded the culture section of NN Journal, championing the voices of Northamptonshire’s Creatives.
I’m drawn to revealing aspects of relatable humanity — the flaws, the humour, the parts often left untold – finding the quirky and humour in the ordinary and the magic of the extraordinary.
A Passion for Storytelling
I love giving a platform to voices that might otherwise go unheard. You’ll often find me chasing the unusual, the offbeat, people in streets, asking random questions. Driven by curiosity, I love exploring cultures and communities that are unexplored.
Now, I’m on a journey to explore new ways of story-telling.
Storytelling is becoming visual, immersive, and interactive. I’m committed to exploring new formats such as video and audio interviews, soundscapes, and short-form digital features that reach out to audiences where they are – whether scrolling, watching, or listening.
