In the second installment of Spotlight on Directors, I sit down with filmmaker and actor Haris Salihovic to discuss his latest project, Black Vultures Over Britain. The film, which has been entered into the Northampton Film Festival (running from 7th to 15th March), delves into the theme of ‘Can you separate great art from the artist?’
We talk about the inspiration behind the story, the cast, and what audiences can expect.

Director Statement
Can you separate art from the artist?
When Peter Handke won the 2019 Nobel Prize in Literature, it prompted a divided response: a literary genius or a genocide denier? One of the best-known writers in the German-speaking world, Handke publicly denied the Bosnian Genocide and actively supported Yugoslav war criminals. This caused a ripple in the former-Yugoslav states. Victims of the genocide felt it represented a moral failure, whilst it gave power and support to the genocide deniers.
With many artists and celebrities being “cancelled” for their controversial views and actions deemed against the norm, is it right to cancel an artist’s work due to this? Black Vultures Over Britain is a dark comedy that asks these questions in a hypothetical, fantasy world.
