Solo Exhibition by Artist Jack Watto

Solo Exhibition by artist Jack Watto in Lumina Gallery, George Row, Northampton.
Jack Watto is a Kettering-based contemporary painter and abstract expressionist whose work blends figurative roots with increasingly experimental, abstract forms. Originally from London, he trained at prestigious institutions including Camberwell School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art, studying alongside influential figures such as Frank Auerbach and Howard Hodgkin.
His practice is primarily in oils, spanning portraiture, figurative work, and expressive abstraction. In recent years, his work has taken on a strong environmental focus—most notably in his Art for Planet Earth series, which uses bold, emotive imagery to confront climate change and ecological crisis.
Watto describes his approach as a form of activism, using painting as a way to “protest” and provoke thought, particularly among younger audiences. His work has been widely exhibited across Northamptonshire and beyond, and is held in private collections in the UK and internationally
