I recently went to the Cotswolds villages of Stanton, Painswick and Castle Combe and fell in love with the signature look: honey coloured stone cottages framed by climbing roses, muted pastel colour palette, rustic beams, plaid and artisan fabrics.
I came home inspired – but with one big question: how could I recreate that luxury look in my house without the luxury price tag?
To help, I asked Northampton interior designer Chelsea Henry from Knook Interiors to lend her expert eye and show us how to bring a touch of the Cotswolds into our own homes using high street finds.

The Colour Palette
Think soft vintage tones for neutrals; warm creams such as Lick’s “Beige 01” and stone greys like Dulux’s “Pebble Grey”. Chelsea recommends dusty muted tones such as Coat’s “Darlington” if you prefer a bit of colour and deepness.
Rustic Charm with High Street Finds
Rustic wood furniture might be costly, but stores like Dunelm and Zara Home do brilliant quality alternatives. Chelsea recommends always checking out a local antiques shop, charity shop and ex-display furniture warehouses if you’re seeking pieces that are unique without breaking the bank.
Textiles & Soft Furnishings
Layering is key. Think mixed textures, fabrics and patterns to really get that cosy cottage feel. Chelsea suggests soft linen curtains, heavy velvet throws and gingham or floral cushions. Look to M&S for country-style cushions that are great designer alternatives.

Touches of Nature
The Cotswolds wouldn’t be complete without climbing roses and greenery. If you can’t commit to real roses, faux stems from Dunelm or Homesense can look surprisingly realistic or opt for dried flowers instead.
Finishing Details
Blend the old with the new for a curated and authentic style. Vintage mirrors, opulent picture frames and ceramic vases can be sourced at charity shops or even carboot sales. Chelsea says: “It’s the little pieces that bring the character — don’t be afraid to mix it up.”
By blending a few well-chosen high street pieces with thoughtful styling, you can recreate that Cotswolds charm — all without moving into a £1 million honey-stone cottage.
