Northampton’s favourite local, the Sir Pickering Phipps, has been reborn as The Phipps — bigger, bolder, and buzzing with energy and ready to take its place as the town’s new late-night hot spot.
Following a £350,000 transformation, The Phipps has been reimagined as a vibrant social neighbourhood hub where the bar takes centre stage, cocktails dazzle, and premium sharing plates and dishes fuel the fun.
The Phipps now has its very own private karaoke booth, which will cater for guilty-pleasure classics, birthday anthems or late-night laughs.
The Phipps will also launch a brand-new menu built around fun, grazing-style plates, cocktails that bring the drama, and a drinks line-up designed for big nights and easy afternoons. The traditional patterned carpets, mahogany furnishings, and the long-standing “Sir Pickering” name have been respectfully retired to make way for a space that is warm, modern, and unmistakably full of energy.

Midweek brings Welly Road Bingo, Know Your Phipps quizzes, open mic nights, community events, and a buzzing social calendar, while Sundays are set to become famous for their relaxed, crowd-pleasing Sunday lunches.
Gary McManus, Managing Director of McManus Pub Company, said:
“The Phipps has always been a cornerstone of Northampton life, and now it’s stepping into a thrilling new chapter. We’ve rebuilt this space around how people want to socialise today, great food, great drinks, great music, and great company. From high-energy Friday nights to chilled-out Sunday lunches, we’ve created a vibrant neighbourhood venue that’s welcoming, modern, and full of life. We cannot wait to see the people of Northampton walk through the doors, make memories, and watch The Phipps become the beating heart of Wellingborough Road’s social scene.”
The refurbishment has also created 15 new local jobs, adding to McManus Pub Company’s long-standing commitment to Northampton, where it has traded for more than 55 years and employs over 200 local staff.
The Phipps will cater for pre-match pint, cocktails with friends, a karaoke showdown, or a night that rolls effortlessly into the early hours.
